ENDOMETRIAL BIOPSY
A small sample that can provide important answers
An endometrial biopsy removes a small sample of tissue from the uterine lining for examination under a microscope. It may be recommended for abnormal bleeding, bleeding after menopause, certain ultrasound findings, or risk factors involving the uterine lining.
The procedure is usually brief, but cramping and discomfort vary. We discuss preparation and available pain-management strategies before the appointment.
After the procedure
Light bleeding or cramping may occur. Patients receive instructions about activity, medications, when results are expected, and symptoms that should prompt a call. A biopsy result is interpreted together with your history, imaging, and other findings.
